Once a month I volunteer to serve lunch at St Vincent de Paul. SVDP was organized in Baton Rouge all the way back in 1865 and have continually served the most vulnerable people in our community since.

Their services have expanded over the years to include a pharmacy with prescription services, shelters for individuals and families, public stores that sell donated merchandise, uniforms for children and maybe their largest program is serving food.

SVDP serves a hot, plated & nutritious lunch 7 days a week, 365 days per year and have done so for the last 40 years and in 2022, SVDP served over 225,000 lunches! They have a kitchen staff that cooks up delicious food everyday and they rely 100% on volunteers to serve lunch each and every day.

I belong to Forum 225 which is a local group dedicated to developing the next generation of leaders for Baton Rouge and have been a member for the past 12 years. Within Forum 225, we have a service committee which performs at least one community service project every month. One of our most popular service projects is our lunch service at SVDP and I have headed up this project for most of my tenure with Forum 225.

We just completed our September 2023 lunch project on Wednesday and we served 351 hot lunches!

SVDP offers many different volunteer opportunities if you wish to get involved with community service projects and they are also a safe and trustworthy organization to donate funds to as well.
